Why a DJ
The advantages of a DJ over a band
- A DJ plays non-stop and takes no breaks.
- A DJ has a far bigger repertoire than any band.
- A DJ plays songs in the versions people know, so they're easier to sing and dance to.
- A DJ never plays out of tune – not at the start, and not later (when the band has had a few beers or shots).
- A DJ doesn't need as much space.
- A DJ needs little time to set up or pack down.
- A DJ can play quietly in the background when people want to talk among themselves.
- A DJ (in my case) is friendly and plays requests for everyone, within limits agreed in advance with the couple.
- A DJ is usually alone, or with one helper – no band-sized catering and travel costs.
I have nothing against bands – some are fantastic and create a great atmosphere, while others can really put wedding guests off. A poorly chosen DJ can do the same, so it pays to be careful and choose a quality service, ideally on personal recommendation.
